Frequently Asked Questions
-
The Reel Hope Project is a nonprofit organization with one clear mission: a forever family for every child. Our goal is to create a reel for every child in foster care who is awaiting adoption.
-
A reel is a two-minute profile video featuring a youth/sibling group awaiting adoption. Social workers send reels to prospective adoptive families to help them "meet" waiting children, giving families a sense of each youth's vibrant personality.
-
We coordinate directly with the youth's social work team to identify a fun, personalized shoot location within or near the youth's current city of residence. If the youth is unable to leave their current residence, we are able to film in foster homes, group homes, or residential treatment centers—always with the full knowledge and consent of foster families or staff members.
-
Each video shoot lasts two hours and has two components: an interview portion and an activity portion, which we combine to create a fun and dynamic final video.
-
Often, nothing! However, foster parents and/or group home staff may be asked to transport the youth to and from the shoot if needed. If the youth is nonverbal or is unable to provide their own audio, they may be asked to participate in a short interview about the youth, but would be informed of this well in advance of the shoot.
-
Yes! A member of the youth's social work team is required to be present, and foster parents/group home staff are more than welcome to attend—especially if their presence could help make the youth more comfortable!
